The Elves and the Shoemaker

Music & Lyrics by Michael Ericson

This fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm was adapted into a musical. The play was commissioned by Child’s Play Theatre in Minnesota and produced as a Christmas offering in 1996. Gabriel is struggling to provide for his family. But Elves decide to surprise him with completed work each night. The Elvin magic helps teach him a holiday lesson.

The original musical production used a cast of 17 and runs approximately one hour with the music.

A later production by Golden Duck Productions at the Dixie Theater in Staunton, VA in 2005 removed the music and performed the piece as a straight play. The Golden Duck production used a cast of 8, 4 men, 3 women, 1 child, and ran for approximately 45 minutes.
